Four people (that we know of so far) .... [Jul. 10th, 2008|05:23 pm]
planning discussion for Jenni and Jason's Wedding,

[Feeling |angryangry]

... decided not to respect our wishes for a dry reception (see FAQ Item #11) and chose to leave the reception area, go to the bar, and drink alcohol. (One person, who drove by herself to and from the rehearsal dinner, also chose to drink there, against our wishes.)

As long as there was going to be a wholesale lack of respect, we may as well have had the bar. It wouldn't have cost us anything, and it would have prevented us from having to deal now with those for whom what we did supply wasn't good enough.

Silly us for believing that the people who came to our wedding cared about us. We should have known better.

Hotel info redux. [Jun. 3rd, 2008|04:14 pm]
planning discussion for Jenni and Jason's Wedding,

[Feeling |geekygeeky]

Those of you booking at the hotel we have blocked, please make your reservations ASAP. If there are any problems, let us know so we can get them dealt with. The official dates for the room block are 02, 03, 04, and 05 July. We made our reservation starting 01 July for six nights; since this is outside the original block, we needed to contact the hotel directly. We were told when we made the block that the rate would be valid up to three days before and three days after the night of 04 July, subject to availability; I confirmed that again today with the sales manager. If anyone has problems booking in that window by calling the hotel directly, ask for the Group Reservations Coordinator (which is what the sales manager suggested to me today). If you still have problems, let us know; we will suggest you call the Group Reservations Coordinator directly. Also, the original terms say that the room block numbers drop to zero on 11 June, meaning that that "subject to availability" becomes even more important (i.e., there are fewer guaranteed rooms available after that date). So please get those rooms booked soon if you need them.

Also, if you haven't sent a reply card in the mail or an online reply, please do so. We apologize again to Internet Explorer 7 users; I'll be working on a workaround for you later today.

Geography Lesson [May. 13th, 2008|03:37 pm]
planning discussion for Jenni and Jason's Wedding,

[Feeling |geekygeographic]

This is to unconfuse people who may be confused. I hope.

google map 1Collapse )

The above map is a Google map clip of part of the state of Illinois. I have circled the locations of the cities of Chicago (northeast), Naperville (northeast), and Champaign (east central). We live in Urbana, which is immediately east of Champaign. The wedding venue is in Naperville (actually in an unincorporated area, but the mailing address is Naperville). Please note the map scale.

google map 2Collapse )

On this map, I have circled the location of the venue (Tamarack Golf Club), the location of the hotel we've blocked rooms at (it's under the I-88 shield on the map), and the location for the rehearsal dinner after the actual rehearsal at the venue (building on the letter "R" in Naperville, only appropriate to those invited to that, but I didn't make a separate map). I've also marked O'Hare International Airport, Midway Airport, and the downtown area of Chicago, where Union Station (Amtrak trains and Metra trains to Naperville) and the Loop are. CTA rapid transit service is available from both airports to the Loop. Again please note the map scale.

What time's the rehearsal? [May. 13th, 2008|01:16 pm]
planning discussion for Jenni and Jason's Wedding,

Plane fares have come back toward the place of sanity and I wanna strike
while the iron is hot. But I don't wanna get into Chicago too late to make
the rehearsal.

Also -- how am I getting from ORD to where the rehearsal is, btw?
