planning discussion for Jenni and Jason's Wedding,
This is where most of the questions we're asked will be answered. We'll be updating this post a lot as we go, so be sure to check back for updates!
1. Why have a Live Journal Site for your wedding? (and what's up with the username?)
Mainly because 1) we met through Live Journal, and 2) all the members of our wedding party have a Live Journal, so it's easy for us to all chat about the planning. (We bought a re-name token after we booked the venue and LJ only allowed me so many characters...*sigh* so yes it says 'weding' instead of wedding...oh well.)
2. How did the two of you meet?
For this, I'll give the short version. Jenni and Jason first met on The Square One TV Forums. Jason and his best friend jillthepill, made friends with Jenni and soon they were all friended through Live Journal. (I mostly blame Jill for this one. - Jenni) This was back in October of 2002.
Fast Forward to 2005, and Jenni is divorced, and is still friends with Jason and Jill. Through many nights of chatting on AIM, the two grew closer and decided they wanted to meet face to face. This happened when Jenni made the trip to Naperville on July 1st 2005. They fell in love, and have been a couple ever since.
Jenni moved with Jason to Urbana in August of 2006 and soon after, while Jason went to Graduate School at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Jenni found a job and has been taking classes full time at Parkland College. Jason proposed on March 16th, 2007, the very same night that Jenni was inducted as a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the Two Year College.
That's the short version. You'll have to wait for another post for a bit more detail. *laugh*
3. Where is the Tamarack Golf Club?
It's in Naperville Illinois. Their website is here. Jason has written up a specific driections post here.
4. What about the reception? Where is that?
The reception is also being held at Tamarack. The ceremony will be outside in the garden area behind the clubhouse, and the reception will be inside the clubhouse.
5. Where are out of town guests going to stay?
We have blocked rooms at the Naperville Holiday Inn Select. The link for our room block is here. Alternately, we don't want our guests to feel that they HAVE to stay at that particular hotel. 6. Are you planning any other parties related to this, such as a bridal shower or engagement party?
At this time, no. We're both insanely busy with work and school. Though we are planning the reahearsal dinner, but only family and bridal party members and their familes are invited to that.
7. Where are you registered?
We are not registering anywhere. We have thought this over a lot and have decided that your presence is your present. We just want to celebrate our marriage and love with those we care about. That, and we honestly have nothing to really register for. Jason and I have been living togeather for over a year now, and have plenty of household stuff, but we thank you for thinking of it.
8. Why are you having the wedding on July 4th?
I get asked this a lot. The main reason is the first weekend in July is very significant to us. Mainly because when we first met (Jul 1st 2005) was a Friday. We wanted our wedding date to be July 1st, but it's in the middle of the week, so that was out. The July 4th holiday has always been special to us though, for that reason, and because in July of 2006, on the holiday weekend, Jenni first was able to make decisions that would lead her from Michigan to Illinois and end the tiresome long-distance relationship that had been keeping them apart for more than a year. Please hold the firework jokes. We've heard them about 100 times already. :P
9. Why are you having the wedding in Naperville when you live in Urbana?
Mainly because it will be easier for those flying in from other states to get from Chicago to the suburbs (more specifically Naperville) than to have everyone try to fly into Chicago and try to make the 2-hour drive to Urbana.
10. Can I contact you other than through this site?
Indeed you can! We ask that all wedding related questions come to us at firstname.lastname@example.org (It has changed from the writing of the Last FAQ, since Comcast ate Insight.)
11. Why are you having a dry reception?
Mostly because Jason and I do not drink, so we didn't feel right paying for and providing alcohol. There will however, be a nice selection of non-alcoholic beverages (including Fre non-alcoholic wine and champagne), and sparkling juice for dinner and the toasts.
12. What else can I do in the area if I decide to stay over the weekend?
We recommend taking Metra into the city of Chicago and checking out the Taste of Chicago Festival....or just going into the city to have fun in general. :)
13. What time does the reception start?
We have the reception slated to begin at 5:30pm. The ceremony is to start at 4pm and last about 20 minutes and then allow some time for pictures. We're hoping that they'll let the guests go inside during that time and kind of seat yourselves at your tables and talk a bit before the reception really begins.
